Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the foul soft copies by disabling the 1st medium after the prescribed times of copying actions are performed between the 1st and 2nd media. CONSTITUTION:When a user copies the software to an IC pack 26 of the 2nd medium from a floppy disk 22 of the 1st medium, both the disk 22 and the pack 26 are put into slots 18 and 20 respectively. Then a menu button 10 is pressed to display the soft menu stored in the disk 22 onto a CRT display device 28, and the desired software is selected by means of cursor buttons 14 and 16. Then a copy button 12 is pushed and a computer 8 loads the software of the disk 22 from a drive 4 and transfers it to a PROM writer unit 6. Thus the software is copied to a PROM24 of the pack 26. The number of copies carried out between the disk 22 and the pack 26 is limited within a prescribed range. Then the software is erased at the side of the disk 22 if the copying times exceed a prescribed level. Thus the copying action is impossible.

Specifically, if a floppy disk or PROM is used as the recorded medium, and a PROM or floppy disk is used as the other medium, and when copying software to this, the number of times the software can be copied from the former medium to the latter medium is limited. This relates to a copy restriction method.

2. Description of the Related Art When copying software from this type of recorded media to another medium, it is generally possible to copy software many times as long as the medium is not mechanically damaged, or by using a floppy disk as the medium. In order to prevent the software from being easily copied without permission, the current products that are being sold as products either have copy protection installed on the media or are provided in mask ROM.

For this reason, when offering software-recorded media to the market as a product, it has been the case that production is made based on a forecast of 1 based on the expected number of sales. Fields that require make-to-stock production are particularly important when dealing with entertainment software such as game software, and prediction of sales volume is important for this purpose.

When dealing with software based on predictions, the predictions are often off. There was a mismatch between the supply and demand relationship between sales and production, resulting in problems such as overproduction of media resulting in defective stock, or the inability to quickly provide software to the market when a shortage of products occurred due to insufficient production.

According to the problem that the invention aims to solve, the present invention allows copies to be made only a predetermined number of times on a recorded medium in order to eliminate the risk of defective inventory due to miscalculation of software sales volume and to quickly respond to product shortages. The purpose is to adapt the structure to meet market needs.

Means for Solving the Problems In order to solve the above problems, the present invention provides a soft recorded medium, and the medium is configured to be able to write the number of times it has been loaded. However, each time the software on the medium is loaded into the memory of the computer, the computer counts the number of times the software is loaded, and conversely records the remaining number of times the software can be used on the medium. When the number of times that data has been recorded on the medium reaches a certain value, the software on the medium is made unusable by instructions from the computer.

Function: In this way, the user can operate the computer in which the medium is installed to sequentially make soft copies from the medium to other media, and the number of copies that can be made from this medium is automatically limited. Therefore, it is possible to quickly respond to the final demand for knots, and by knowing the consumption status for each medium, it is possible to grasp market trends regarding software.

It is equipped with 8°2o. The device 2 uses a 3" 70 disk 22 as the first medium, and more than 10 game software programs have already been written on the floppy disk 22.Furthermore, the floppy disk 22 is used to store other files from this medium. As shown in Figure 1, drive 4 has an area that can record the number of times software has been loaded.
At the same time as receiving the 0-novy disk 22, it is electrically connected to the computer 8. Therefore, the software in the floppy disk 22 is transferred from the drive 4 to the RAM of the computer 8. Computer 8 is PRO
Since it is connected to the M writer unit 6, the previous transfer software is automatically sent to the PROM writer unit 6. The technology for connecting these devices and the technology for soft transfer are realized using publicly known technologies.

As shown in Figure 2, on the PROMROM writer unit,
The configuration is such that a C pack 26 with a PROM 24 (rewritable *L'c ROM) can be installed through the slot 2Q. Therefore, the circuit is configured similarly to a known ROM writer so that the software transferred to the PROM writer unit 6 can be written into the PROM 24. PR
After writing the software to the OM 24, the computer 8 confirms whether the software has been written correctly. After confirmation, the computer 8 stores the number of times it has been loaded from the floppy disk 22 according to the program in the ROM in the drive 4 in the above-mentioned area of the floppy disk 22 that records the number of times it has been loaded.
The increment of the load count is recorded via the . When the floppy disk 22 (first medium) reaches a specified number of loading times (set to 10 times in this embodiment), the number detecting means 7 is activated and the drive 4 loads the software recorded on the floppy disk 22 according to instructions from the computer 8. ,
